✍️ Writing a Prescription

To begin, navigate to the patient’s RX Module and select Script to start your written prescription.

In the New Written Rx search box, type the medication that you would like to script out.

Enter the prescription instructions, total quantity, and the number of refills desired

Clicking in the instruction text box will open the familiar smart dose calculator, along with the Plumb’s monograph and any available drug handouts.

🚨 Important Note: Patient Safety Warnings are not yet available for Written Scripts. Be sure to double-check each prescription for accuracy!

The Provider and Expiration date fields will auto-populate, just like they do for prescriptions, but you can easily update them if necessary. If the prescriber approves substitutions, slide the Substitutions Approved toggle into the ON position. You also have the option to include a Pharmacy Note to provide any special instructions or important information that the pharmacy should be aware of; for example, if the patient prefers a tuna-flavored suspension. 🐈

To print the doctor’s DEA number directly on written prescriptions:

  1. Add the doctor’s DEA number in the Staff Admin section.

  2. Toggle Print DEA # on your written Rx.

Finally, click the Create Rx button to log the prescription and generate a PDF that the veterinarian can print and sign, which will then be given to the client or pharmacy.
