Updated over a week ago

Ordering A Product

In the order box at the top, type the name of the product that you would like to order and select it from the drop down list.

A new section will open allowing you to set the Quantity, Route, Frequency, and Start/End time for the order. You will also be able to turn on Mandatory Treatment Notes and add Order Notes, which are specific instructions attached to treatments to enhance communication amongst your team.

Order Note examples:

  • Instructions for medication administration (give IV slow, mix with food, etc.)

  • Instructions to notify the doctor before administering treatment

  • Setting call parameters

  • Safety instructions for staff (careful with rectal temp, wear gloves, do not handle if pregnant, etc.)

Select ‘Order’ to add this order to the treatment sheet.

Any treatments with order notes will be indicated on the treatment sheet with an orange comment icon. Hovering over the icon will display the order note:

For added clarity, order notes will also display on the treatment completion screen:

💡 ProTip: If you have medications/treatments that need the same instructions every time, your hospital administrators can add a Default Order Note to auto-populate every time that treatment is ordered.

Smart Calculator

If the product is set-up as a medication + calculator, you will also see a smart calculator to aide in determining the quantity, as well as the Monograph and Medication Guides from Plumbs.

Enter in either the Dose or the Total Dose to calculate the Calculated Quantity, then click on the Use Calculated Quantity button to insert this amount into the Quantity. Based on the information provided, Instinct will let you know if the dose is dangerous for the patient, as long as there are pre-set safety ranges for the product. You can choose to ignore the warning and still order the current quantity or you can recalculate a new quantity.

🚨Not seeing the smart calculator for a medication order? Double check that your patient has a weight entered. Once entered the calculator will appear!

OM/IH Medications

If a medication has been brought by an owner to your hospital you use our OM medications. “OM” stands for owner’s medication. If the medication can not be found you can use miscellaneous/other medications. Alternatively, you can also use OM medications on a treatment sheet if medication has been prescribed and is going to be given while the patient is at your hospital.

Medications can also be dispensed for use in-hospital or “IH.” This can be for those anxious patients who may benefit from a one time dose of trazodone while hospitalized.
