Instinct Payments: Void / Refund

Learn how to return full or partial credit/debit payments.

Voiding a Payment

  • If a transactions' status is “pending”, you can Void the transaction before 5 PM EST, and the owner’s card will immediately receive the funds back in their account.

  • If the payment is reversed after 5 PM EST, the payment will be refunded, and settled back in the client’s account within a few business days.

    A voided payment will be stricken and grayed out on the ledger.

Refunding a Payment

  • If the transaction’s status is “settled”, you will be able to Refund the transaction to the original method of payment.

  • A Refund confirmation will display, allowing you to initiate a full or partial refund. You can complete multiple partial refunds up to the original payment amount.

  • If a transaction has had a Payment unapplied into the Account Credit, the option to Void or Refund will be disabled.


  • If the 3-dot menu does not show either Refund or Void, the original payment has already been refunded in its full amount.

🚨Important: Voiding or refunding a payment must be tied to the original sale. This is why the Credit/Debit option is not an available Method on the Payments form when Type: Refund is selected
