Snippets

Snippets can be created to quickly add pre-populated text to any document field.

Any user with the “admin_charts” permission can manage Snippets in Admin.

Creating a New Snippet

To create a new Snippet, simply click “+ New Snippet” at the top of the Snippet Admin page.

Enter the Snippet Name and Text which can then be selected when filling out a document field in the Charts or Prescription sections of Instinct EMR.

If a Snippet is inserted into a Chart template, it will automatically appear when this document is created for a patient. This is similar to how Default Order Notes work when ordering treatments on the Treatment Sheet.

Editing a Snippet

To Edit or Delete a Snippet, simply click the 3-dot menu to the left of the Snippet Label name.

Variables

Variables can be added to a Snippet by utilizing 2 curly brackets “{{” to insert the variable as seen below:

When the Snippet with the variable is used, the Patient’s name will auto populate into the desired fields.

Variables available are:

  • {{patient_name}} – Replaced by the patient’s first name

  • {{patient_full_name}} – Replaced by the patient’s full name

  • {{patient_pims_id}} – Replaced by the patient’s PIMS ID

  • {{patient_age}} – Replaced by the patient’s age

  • {{patient_sex}} – Replaced by the patient’s sex

  • {{patient_breed}} – Replaced by the patient’s breed

  • {{patient_species}} – Replaced by the patient’s species

  • {{primary_contact_full_name}} – Replaced by the account’s primary contact’s full name

📑 Charting Snippets

Snippets are a great tool allowing you to quickly add pre-populated text or variables to any document field.

To add a Snippet, simply select the text field to display the notebook symbol below the field. Clicking on the notebook symbol will open the Snippets box, where you can then search for a specific Snippet by typing in the search field or by scrolling through the list. Snippets can also be quickly added to text boxes by using the keyboard shortcut of CTRL+S or by typing ##{{ in the text box. Once a snippet is added, users can manually edit the populated text or add placeholder content for fields requiring manual updates.

Once a Snippet is selected, the information within that Snippet will populate in the text field, where you can then edit the Snippet or add additional Snippets. For manual fields, consider applying bold text or including placeholders like [Enter Doctor Name Here] to ensure they are easily identifiable and not missed during editing.

💊 Prescription Snippets

Prescribing information can also be added to Snippets allowing you to quickly fill in the prescription instructions.

📧 Comm Log Snippets

A Comm Log Snippet can make emailing invoices, records, and estimates to the client easy.
