Before you begin: try these steps first
Regardless of the terminal model, start here. These two steps resolve most issues:
Restart the terminal. Press and hold the power button until a menu appears, then select Restart. Wait about 60 seconds for the terminal to come back online.
Check your clinic's internet connection.
Confirm the internet is working on another device.
If you have ongoing connection issues, ask your IT team to verify the following domains are allowlisted on your firewall:
*.adyen.com
*.adyenpayments.com
Terminal admin passcode: The 4-digit passcode required for some settings menus is 8588.

S1F2 — Handheld, touchscreen, built-in printer
The S1F2 is the largest handheld terminal and the only model with a built-in receipt printer and paper slot.
The terminal won't turn on
Confirm the USB-C cable is fully inserted into both the terminal and the power adapter.
Try a different wall outlet.
If the battery was fully drained, plug the terminal in and wait 30 minutes before pressing the power button.
If the terminal still won't turn on, flip it over, slide the battery cover down, remove the battery, reinsert it, and try again.
The terminal is not connecting to the network
Restart the terminal first (press and hold the power button > Restart).
If still not connected, go to Settings → Network → Wi-Fi on the touchscreen.
Confirm Wi-Fi is turned on and your clinic network is selected.
If your network isn't listed, tap the + icon and enter your network name and password.
Terminal printer issues
Problem | What to do |
No receipt printed | Open the paper compartment and load a new paper roll. The slightly shiny (thermal) side should face down as it feeds in. |
Receipt comes out blank | The paper is loaded backward. Remove the roll, flip it over, and reload. |
Paper jammed | Open the compartment, remove all paper, clear any torn scraps, and reload a fresh roll. |
Print is faded or streaky | Try a new paper roll. If the issue continues, contact Instinct Support. |
S1E2L — Handheld, touchscreen, lightweight
The S1E2L is a smaller, lightweight handheld terminal. It looks similar to the S1F2 but does not have a built-in printer or paper slot.
The terminal won't turn on
Insert the USB-C cable straight into the terminal — do not angle it up, down, or sideways.
Use only the USB-C cable that came with the terminal. Other cables may not work correctly.
Try a different wall outlet.
If the battery was fully drained, plug the terminal in and wait 30 minutes before pressing the power button.
The terminal is not connecting to the network
Restart the terminal first (press and hold the power button > Restart).
If still not connected, go to Settings → Network on the touchscreen.
Confirm the Wi-Fi toggle is turned on and your clinic network is selected.
If your network isn't listed, tap the + icon and enter your network name and password.
P630 — Countertop, Ethernet or Wi-Fi
The P630 sits at the front desk and connects via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. Unlike handheld models, it uses physical keypad buttons instead of on-screen menus.
Keypad shortcuts:
Press | What it does |
9 + green button | Opens Settings (requires passcode 8588) |
5 + green button | Shows device info, including serial number (no passcode needed) |
The terminal won't turn on
Confirm the power cable is securely plugged into both the terminal and the wall outlet.
If connected via Ethernet, confirm the cable is plugged into the port labeled ETH on the dongle.
Try a different wall outlet.
If there is still no response, contact Instinct Support.
The terminal is not connecting to the network
Restart the terminal: press 9 + green button, enter passcode 8588, then select Reboot.
Check that the Ethernet cable is firmly seated in the ETH port.
If using Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet, press 9 + green button → Network → Wi-Fi and confirm your clinic network is selected.
The terminal is running slowly
Restart the terminal using the keypad steps above.
If still sluggish, leave the terminal plugged in and powered on overnight — it will sync automatically.
AMS1 — Compact handheld, phone-sized
The AMS1 is a small, phone-sized handheld terminal. It does not have a built-in printer.
The terminal won't turn on
Insert the USB-C cable straight into the terminal.
Use only the USB-C cable that came with the terminal. Other cables may not work correctly.
Try a different wall outlet.
If the battery is fully drained, plug the terminal in and wait 30 minutes before pressing the power button.

Frequently asked questions
Does my terminal work if Wi-Fi goes down?
Yes — the S1F2, S1E2L, and AMS1 include built-in 4G cellular backup that activates automatically if Wi-Fi fails. The P630 does not have cellular backup and depends entirely on your clinic's internet connection. Note: cellular fallback does not recover a transaction already in progress. If your network drops mid-payment, restart the transaction.
Where do I find my terminal's serial number?
The serial number is on a sticker on the back of the terminal. You can also find it by pressing 5 + green button on the P630, or going to Settings → Device Info on all other models.
How do I restart a terminal using the settings menu instead of the power button? Go to Settings → Power, enter passcode 8588, and select Restart.
