Use this article to confirm your practice's operating system, processor, memory, and monitor meet Instinct's recommended specifications before setup.

Plan the number of computers for your practice

The right number of computer stations depends on your practice's size and workflow. As a starting point, Instinct recommends:

  • 1 computer station for every doctor on shift

  • 1.5 computer stations for every 2 support staff on shift

Confirm your operating system is supported

Instinct is tested and optimized for devices running:

  • Windows 7 or above (32-bit or 64-bit)

  • Mac OS 10.10 or above

  • Chrome OS (Chromebook)

Meet the recommended processor and memory specs

  1. For Intel processors, use a Core i5 or i7 (Skylake / 6th generation or more recent) with 2 or more cores. Avoid Celeron, m3, m5, or i3 processors, since Instinct will run, but performance may suffer.

  2. For AMD desktop processors, use a Ryzen 5, 5 Pro, or 7 (series 2000 or 3000 CPU/APU, such as 2500X, 3400G, or 3500, or better). Avoid Ryzen 3, 1000-series CPUs, or 2000-series APUs.

  3. For AMD laptop processors, use a Ryzen 5 or 7 (series 3000 or 4000, such as 3500U or 4500U, or better). Avoid Ryzen 3 or 2000 series processors.

  4. Confirm your device has at least 8GB of RAM.

  5. Confirm your device has at least 1GB of free hard drive space. A solid-state drive is recommended.

Choose a compatible monitor

Use a monitor that is at least 12 inches with full HD resolution. Instinct supports a minimum resolution of 1024x768.

Note: Instinct also supports thin-client (terminal) and virtual machine workstations. Specifications depend on the number of simultaneous users and concurrent applications, so Instinct recommends over-investing in resources and consulting your IT professional, since testing and boosting resources later may be necessary.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a lower-spec processor like an i3 or Celeron?

Instinct will run on these processors, but performance may suffer. Instinct recommends a Core i5 or i7 (Skylake or more recent) instead.

How much hard drive space does Instinct use?

Instinct uses up to 1GB of hard drive space. A solid-state drive is recommended for best performance.
