FAQ – Technology update for Cornerstone-connected Hospitals

Instinct recently released a technical update to optimize the exchange of data between IDEXX Cornerstone and Instinct. We know you likely have questions about the impact of this change so we created this FAQ document to help.

Note: This is limited to hospitals using Instinct Treatment Plan and IDEXX Cornerstone and does not affect Instinct EMR hospitals.

Does this update affect charges sent to the Patient Visit List (“PVL”) from Instinct?

No, this only affects Cornerstone PVL item sync back to Instinct. This functionality will help eliminate duplicate charges and improve our Predictive Billing feature.

How long will invoice line items from Cornerstone take to sync back into Instinct?

Timing will vary, but typically sync will occur in less than 20 minutes, and at most 1 hour. The 1-hour lag should be a rare occurrence.

Tip: Sending charges from Instinct to the Cornerstone PVL will force a refresh, which can speed up syncing.

Do I have to worry about duplicate charges being sent to my PVL in Cornerstone?

No, you don’t have to worry about duplicate charges being sent to your Cornerstone PVL, even with delayed syncing.

When you click Send in Instinct:

  • Charges are matched against existing PVL items

  • Any duplicates are automatically discarded in the background
This works the same way as before, even if syncing appears delayed.

What about Cubex charges?

In Instinct hospitals using IDEXX Cornerstone, Cubex is integrated directly with Cornerstone and those charges then sync to Instinct’s invoice in order to reduce duplicate charging. This is unaffected by this change and will still occur as expected.

Will this update impact Predictive Billing?

We know how helpful Predictive Billing is in supporting your client conversations.

Because automatic syncing from Cornerstone’s PVL to Instinct’s invoice will happen less frequently in the background, there may be times in which Instinct’s Predictive Billing will be less accurate.

This usually only occurs if you have entered a significant number of items directly to the PVL that aren’t in Instinct. You can always go to the Instinct invoice and send charges to force an update before using the Predictive Billing to update owners on estimates.

Is this change in syncing time temporary or permanent?

This is a permanent update to optimize data sharing between Instinct and IDEXX Cornerstone. We will continue to learn and optimize data syncing with your feedback!
