IDEXX VetConnect PLUS: Getting Started

In Instinct EMR, the IDEXX VetConnect PLUS integration connects your practice's diagnostic orders to IDEXX In-House and Reference Lab services, allowing results to automatically flow back into the patient's chart.

Written by Melissa Duarte

Before you begin

  • You must have the admin_integrations permission added to your User Role to manage IDEXX VetConnect PLUS credentials in Admin → Practice → Integrations.

  • Before you can use this integration, valid credentials must be added in Instinct, and Instinct's team must map your products. To request product mapping, in Instinct select Help → Support chat → Submit a Ticket → EMR Integrations → Lab Product Mapping.

How IDEXX VetConnect PLUS works

When a mapped IDEXX product is completed on a Treatment Sheet, the following happens:

  • A new visit chart document is automatically created with a status of To Submit.

  • Once the Chart document is opened and reviewed, the request is initiated by clicking Order.

  • For In-House requests, clicking Order triggers a request to your In-House IDEXX machine(s). For Reference Lab requests, clicking Order provides a link within the Chart document to print the IDEXX requisition form. Both request types are then updated to a status of Pending.

  • Once results are available, the Chart document status updates to Complete and results can be viewed by clicking View Results from the Order History on the corresponding Tx sheet, or by clicking on the attached results in the Chart document or the Diagnostics Dashboard.

Tip: Access the Diagnostics Dashboard to view all diagnostics for patients at your practice in a single view. See Diagnostics Dashboard for more details.

Add your IDEXX VetConnect PLUS credentials

Add the credentials provided by IDEXX in Instinct EMR.

  1. Go to Admin → Practice → Integrations → IDEXX VetConnect PLUS.

  2. Click Add Credentials.

  3. Enter your IDEXX VetConnect PLUS username and password provided by IDEXX.

  4. Click Save. Instinct EMR will validate your credentials before saving:

If your credentials are valid, they will save successfully, and a green box will display saying "Configuration saved".

If your credentials are invalid, an error will be displayed, and they will not be saved. Double-check your IDEXX VetConnect PLUS username and password and try again. Please contact IDEXX if repeated attempts are unsuccessful.

  5. Click Activate to begin ordering mapped IDEXX VetConnect PLUS products.

Note: For practices with multiple IDEXX VetLab Stations (IVLS) attached to one VetConnect sign in, fill out the IVLS Device serial number for each IVLS to prevent requisitions from populating at the wrong IVLS station. Each IVLS must be configured separately.

Reach out to Instinct to map your products

Product mapping links the lab tests you order in Instinct to their corresponding products in IDEXX. This is completed on the back end by Instinct's team. To request mapping, go to Help → Support chat → Submit a Ticket → EMR Integrations → Lab Product Mapping. Please have the product PIMS ID(s) that need to be mapped and their IDEXX reference lab codes, or in-house test names ready.

Frequently asked questions

Why am I seeing an error when I try to save my credentials?

Instinct EMR validates credentials when you save them. If an error appears, your username or password may be incorrect. Verify your IDEXX VetConnect PLUS sign-in credentials and try again. If the issue persists, contact IDEXX for assistance.

Can I update my credentials after the initial setup?

If your credentials change, follow the same steps above in “Add your IDEXX VetConnect credentials.”

Why won’t any orders go through after adding credentials?

The Instinct team must map products before orders can be processed. Please contact support to request product mapping. To request product mapping via live chat, select Help → Support chat → Submit a Ticket → EMR Integrations → Lab Product Mapping.
