What Universal Search searches today
Patient records: search by partial owner or animal name, or by identifier (microchip, insurance, or tag number). Exact identifier matches appear at the top of results.
Chart documents: search by a phrase or term that appears in a chart title.
Practice Library: search by document name and filter by category or date created.
Invoices: search by invoice number, account ID, or phone number.
Accounts: search by account name, phone number, or account ID.
Coming in future releases: accounts, financial records, inventory, scheduling, and smarter, meaning-based search.
Note: Universal Search is rolling out to practices in waves. If you don't see it in Instinct, it hasn't been enabled yet—access will appear automatically once your practice is turned on. |
How Universal Search compares to the Patient Search
Universal Search is the new one-box experience: it searches across patients and chart documents and returns a single ranked list. It also lets you navigate to any page and take quick actions directly from results.
You can try out Universal Search by selecting Look Up (where Patient Search is currently located) in the left navigation sidebar, then select Try Universal Search.
Patient Search is the familiar patient-only lookup you already know. It will be retired over time as Universal Search expands to cover all search needs. Until then, you can toggle between the two in the search bar at any time by selecting Prefer Classic Search? Switch Back at the bottom right of the Universal Search window.
Good to know
Results are specific to your practice. Universal Search only returns records that belong to the practice you're currently in.
Recent changes appear within a few minutes. A record you edit is searchable shortly after saving—a very recent change may take a moment to show up.
Advanced search isn't supported yet. Boolean operators (AND, OR) aren't available at this time. Type the name, identifier, or phrase, and use the available filters to narrow results.
Frequently asked questions
