Manage long-term patients
Patients who have been checked in for 30 or more days accumulate a large amount of data. Every time a treatment sheet opens, all of that data loads, which can significantly slow things down.
Check out long-term patients, including any cleaning or reminder checklists created as treatment sheets, every 30 days. Rebuild their treatment sheets after check-out.
Tip: Have your admin team create Product Groups to quickly rebuild long-term patient treatment sheets, including cleaning checklists. You can also sort patients by check-in time to identify your longest visits.
Clear overdue treatments
A large number of overdue treatments can significantly slow down treatment sheet loading. A red dot next to a patient's name means that the patient has at least one overdue treatment.
Tip: Use the Bulk Edit feature to quickly move overdue treatments. Apply a filter to see which patients are overdue.
Limit background programs on your workstation
Large numbers of open programs can occasionally affect the performance of Instinct EMR and ITP. Keep your workstation free of unnecessary background programs—you may notice an overall improvement in speed after closing them.
Troubleshooting checklist
If Instinct is running slowly, work through these steps:
Check your internet speed at fast.com. For small practices, aim for at least 10 Mbps; for larger practices, at least 30 Mbps.
If you suspect a network issue, connect a laptop to a 4G hotspot (such as your smartphone) and test Instinct. If performance improves, contact your IT team—this may be caused by an overactive firewall or security setting.
Check each board for patients who have been checked in for 30 or more days.
Look for patients with a red dot, indicating overdue treatments.
Confirm your workstation does not have multiple other programs running in the background.
