How to use the top navigation bar
Instinct's new navigation bar, also referred to as Global Navigation, adds a persistent top bar across every screen in Instinct, so you never lose access to Search (formerly Lookup), Ask (formerly Assistant), and system tools while navigating the app.
The top navigation bar includes:
Back: An option to navigate back to your previous window
Search: opens the Universal Search box, which has replaced the Lookup tool. See How to Use Universal Search for more details.
Ask: In Instinct EMR, this opens Assistant from any page within Instinct. See Get Started with Assistant in Instinct EMR for more details.
Notifications (🔔): In Instinct EMR, view and manage alerts about activity in your practice. See Notifications: View and Manage In-App Alerts for more details.
Help (❓): Access the Instinct support chat or email and view keyboard shortcuts
Admin (⚙️): visible only if you have admin permissions
Log out (🔒)
Your user menu, which contains: Preferences, Connection Status, Refresh Instinct, Paws ‘n’ Play, and shows your version of Instinct
As of September 2nd, 2026, Notifications, Look Up, Assistant, Help, Admin, Profile, and Log Out will no longer appear in the left navigation sidebar—they move to the top bar instead.
